An autoclave is used to sterilise surgical instruments. These instruments are largely the same as those used in human surgery. Green indicates the sterile field - the surgical instrument table, the drapes on the patient and the surgeon's gown. Only the surgeon is permitted to touch these areas.

A Doppler is a machine that can measure a patient's blood pressure as well as being used to assist in monitoring a patient's anaesthetic. Just like humans, our senior pets can suffer from high blood pressure. The Doppler allows us to measure our patient's blood pressure so we can diagnose, prevent, monitor and treat problems associated with this condition. We recommended all senior pets visit the clinic for a senior check up at least twice a year.

The endoscope enables us to look down into the oesophagus and stomach as well as into the trachea and inside the bronchi of the lungs. Using the endoscope we can take biopsies, which are small samples of tissue, from the lining of the trachea, oesophagus and stomach. At the other end of the patient, the endoscope can also be used to look into and take biopsies of the colon. The patient needs to be under general anaesthetic for endoscopy.

Fluids are not only used for the treatment of sick patients but for those undergoing routine surgery such as desexing so they make a faster, more safer recovery.

We are able to perform various pathology tests such as blood and urine tests using state of the art diagnostic equipment. This allows us to provide faster diagnosis and treatment. On occasion we may require more detailed testing and engage the services of a specialist laboratory when required.

The measurement of an animal's blood pressure (BP) has a wide range of applications in veterinary medicine. BP measurement is clinically significant in the early diagnosis of a variety of diseases, monitoring of patients, during anesthesia and also when certain medications are being used. The petMap device allows our healthcare team to easily measure your pet's blood pressure whilst they are awake and causes very little stress to most pets.

Radiographs or x-rays are a non-invasive way for us to look at tissues, bones and organs. Patients must stay very still while having an x-ray taken. This means many of our wriggly patients are given a sedation or general anaesthetic. Once taken, the film is processed and dried so that our veterinarians can make a diagnosis or request further testing.

An ultrasound is a device that emits sound waves of extremely high frequency so that an image can be displayed. Ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool as it is non-invasive and we can use it to examine most body systems such as a patient’s heart and all of the abdominal contents. An ultrasound can also be used to confirm if a patient is pregnant, just like us humans.
